  • 8-Night / 9-Day Galapagos Adventure

  • Our Galapagos CME Adventure will allow you to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world. Enjoy multiple activities and options allowing one to explore the islands during the day and sleep in oceanfront eco-lodges at night. Spend your days snorkeling, swimming, hiking, diving, surfing, or relaxing - it's totally up to you. Our course is private and offers built in flexibility for you to enjoy your travels.

  • We have built in options for snorkeling or Scuba Diving. Discover the unique species in the Galapagos Marine Reserve. You will be amazed at the calm and friendly demeanor of the pelagic life around you. Designed by professional PADI Divemasters - there will be options for beginners as well as advanced divers.

  • Experience Kicker Rock via boat. Towering 500 feet out of the ocean, Kicker Rock, boasts some of the best snorkeling and diving in the archipelago. Frequenters include colorful reef fish, sea turtles, sting rays, Galapagos sharks and maybe even a hammerhead. It is also a resting area for Blue-footed Boobies, frigate birds and tropicbirds.

  • You will also have the option to try surfing. There are multiple sites for beginners and experts alike.

CERTIFICATION:

  • Approved for up to 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and a maximum of 14 WMS FAWM Credits

  • “This course has been approved for Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credits through the Wilderness Medical Society. Actual credits awarded depend on personal credit needs and history.”

ITINERARY: (Speakers and times may change slightly based on availability and weather)

  • Day 1 (Sat, April 2nd) – Arrive in Quito, Ecuador. Upon Arrival, you will be met by your Local Guide and transferred to your Hotel.

    • Introduction to Course & Wild Med Instructors

    • Please Note: (There will be one pick-up time from airport for transfers - please plan your flights accordingly. Do NOT book flights until you have discussed with us pick-up times and minimum number of participants has been reached)

  • Day 2 (Sunday, April 3rd) - Fly to San Cristobal Island, Galapagos. Meet your Guide and transfer to your hotel room. After Lunch, enjoy your choice of Surf, Snorkel or Swim. Special Welcome Dinner.

    • Evening Lectures (B,L,D)

  • Day 3 (Monday, April 4th) - Embark on a full day of scuba diving / snorkeling trip to Kicker Rock. Many Marine species can be observed such as Galapagos sharks, hammerheads, blacken sharks, white tip sharks, barracudas, puffers, stingrays, turtles, and tropical fish.  If Scuba is not your thing, take a coastal hike to observe Frigate Birds in Tijeretas.

    • Evening Lectures (B,L,D) 

  • Day 4 (Tuesday, April 5th) - Enjoy your choice of Surf, Snorkel or Swim.

    • Morning/Evening Lectures (B,L,D)

  • Day 5 (Weds., April 6th) - Take a two-hour speedboat ride to Santa Cruz Island and observe giant Galapagos tortoises in the highlands. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station.  

    • Daily Lectures (B,L,D)

  • Day 6 (Thursday, April 7th) - This morning after breakfast enjoy a diving trip or opt for a walk to Tortuga Bay. After lunch, enjoy a surfing option.

    • Daily Lectures (B,L,D)

  • Day 7 (Friday, April 8th) - Today enjoy a boat tour and an afternoon diving tour. If you prefer, skip diving and opt for a swim or snorkel in Las Grietas volcanic swim hole.

    • Daily Lectures (B,L,D)

  • Day 8 (Sat., April 9th) - Return to airport on Baltra Island in time for you flight to Quito. Upon arrival, staff will transfer you to your hotel. Farewell Dinner in Quito.

    • Final Lectures / Evaluations and Wrap-up (B, D)

  • Day 9 (Sunday, April 10th) - This morning you will be transferred to the airport in time for you international flight.

THE  TEAM / FACULTY:

  • The travel logistics and leadership will be provided by extremely experienced guides from Wild Med Adventures and local Guides in Ecuador.

  • The Wild Med Adventures Team are all well traveled and experienced and promise to make your CME experience both educational and informative, but please note that we are only responsible for the educational aspect of this trip. We are not Guides and do not provide gear and/or other safety equipment for the adventure portion of this course. PRE-REQUISITES:

  • Anyone is welcome to attend !!!

  • CME is specifically for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics and EMT’s - (Please Check with your governing body to ensure credits are acceptable and state that they are AMA PRA Category I CME credits)

  • If no CME needed, please feel free to attend and enjoy the lectures at no additional cost

  • A keen interest in wilderness & tropical medicine

  • A good level of physical fitness and your dive certification cards if needed

  • Prepare and bring proper clothing for different activities and small medical kit

  • Non-Medicals and Welcome to Attend with or without a medical spouse

TRIP INSURANCE AND PRE-TRIP MEDICAL:

  • Delegates should have personal or travel insurance to cover any in-country medical examinations or injuries, rescue/evacuation insurance as well as some form of trip insurance to cover missed flights, weather delays, medical injuries and other potential trip delays.

  • We recommend Global Rescue for our international CME trips.

  • PLEASE set up an appointment with a travel clinic to ensure all appropriate vaccinations and prophylaxis medications for Ecuador. The CDC is a useful resource. You should also discuss your travel plans with your physician.

Included:  8 Nights lodging (shared accommodations), Quito Airport Pick-up & Drop-Off (Times TBD), All Food as indicated above, all activities and scuba/surf gear, internal flights, transportation to included activities, FAWM and CME credits 14 hours, and a free Wild Med Adventures T-Shirt, Tank-Top or Hat. 

Excluded: Flight from destination to Quito, Ecuador, Transportation to Lodge if you miss pick-up time due to any reason, additional activities not included that you may wish to do on "free" days, any personal gear needed for trip such as personal snorkel gear, hiking gear, or other equipment. Any alcohol or specialty drinks, any additional costs for special meals or snacks, gratuities, delays, injuries, trip insurance, medical & rescue insurance or cancellations. Expect Tips of $5-$10/day for Tour Leader, $5-$7/day for Assistant Guide, Driver $3-$5. (Single Supplement Rooms: $750, limited number) 

FLIGHT INFO: Transportation is included to lodge from airport and back. However, there is only one pick-up on day of arrival. You need to plan flight arrival time accordingly. If you need to book flight that arrives later you can get taxi service to lodge or arrange for private transportation.

Same for departure: we will plan to leave lodge in am for early afternoon flight home. You should plan your flight out of Quito for no earlier than 11am. If you need an earlier flight then transportation can be arranged. 

***Please note: Full payment due within 90 days of course or a $250 fee will be added to your final cost**

  • Cancellation Policy: Your deposit for the travel portion of the course is nonrefundable. The entire balance of your trip fee and CME fee will be due 90 days prior to departure. If you have not paid in full prior to 90 days before the start of the course a late fee of $250 will be applied to final cost or we have the right to cancel your trip. There will be no refund after 90 days prior to course. If you cancel within 90 days of beginning of trip you will be refunded 50% of total trip cost. If you cancel trip 120 days before trip you will be reimbursed full price excluding deposit.

  • This conference offers FAWM core and elective credits. Actual credits awarded depend on personal credit needs and history with a maximum of TBD credits.

  • Our program focuses on treatment of the most common injuries and illnesses encountered while traveling to tropical areas and remote locations.

MAIN EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

  • The goal of the Galapagos CME Conference is to provide participants with a unique environment to experience essential medical-related topics and learn skills while collaborating with expert faculty through educational activities including lectures, hands on work-shops, and Adventure Excursions.

  • Development of this CME curriculum is formed by the following key objectives:

    • Provide educational opportunities based on core curriculum of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.

    • Provide education of value to providers who care for the medical needs and also those involved with coordination of tropical medicine educational activities, including medical providers who must educate and instruct travel safety with their patients.

    • Provide education of interest to wilderness and austere-activity enthusiasts.

    • After attending this conference, the participants will be able to:

      • Establish a set of treatment priorities for care of the sick or injured in remote settings.

      • Prevent, diagnose, and manage illnesses and injuries in austere environments.

      • Demonstrate increased knowledge and skills in recognizing and treating the most common illnesses and injuries encountered in remote environments, including tropical environments.

      • Understand objective risk-assessment in wilderness environments from the perspective of the medical professional acting as a trip leader.

      • Understand the pathophysiology and management of acute emergencies related to remote environments.

TARGET AUDIENCE: 

  • Intended as continuing education for physicians, PA's, NP's, nurses, and medics who aspire to work or teach as a field instructor/provider in remote environments or who may work in remote clinics and deal with the injuries sustained in tropical environments.

  • Graduates from other wilderness medicine programs (e.g. FAWM, MFAWM) who want to gain experience and skills in Remote Medicine.

  • Individuals pursuing a Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM™)
