We depart Hanoi and spend the first night in Pu Luong nature reserve and the next day make our way to the border with Laos and cross over to spend the night in Xam Nua, next we meet the Trail on our way to the Plain of Jars and follow the dirt tracks through the jungles that follow the border with Vietnam, epic riding and war history makes this an unforgettable journey, we travel down the original trail to Xepon town just across the DMZ and through a site that was heavily bombed by the Americans. We will visit villages that use bombs as supports of their houses on stilts. Great rides through forest and river crossings, we make our way to the border then cross back into Vietnam and end the tour in the Ancient trading port of Hoi An and relax on the beach, knowing that we conquered the Ho Chi MInh Trail. Experience an epic motorbike tour from Vietnam to Laos on the Ho Chi MInh Trail. Explore the famous Ho Chi Minh Trail and explore the wilds of Laos by motorbike on this cross border off-road tour. Remote villages, jungle and war sites make this an epic journey. Great for groups and families that crave adventure and war history.
This course is ideal for those interested in providing medical care / prevention to the outdoor enthusiast or those looking to learn more about possible injuries and accidents encountered while off-roading. Our courses are also great for those travel enthusiasts, group leaders, bikers, walkers, EMT’s, nurses or doctors with a desire to learn medical treatment in austere environments. We will complete the core curriculum of this CME certification course while off roading in Vietnam. Explore the beauty of Vietnam and immerse yourself in the culture of souteast asia. Enjoy 14 nights / 12 days of riding, all food & lodging, CME, rental bikes, transportation with support van and all drinks including alcohol while making new friends. In addition, earn credits towards your FAWM via the WMS society.
ATTENDING THIS COURSE YOU WILL:

Our program focuses on treatment of the most common injuries and illnesses encountered while in the backcountry.
CERTIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:
14 AMA PRA Category 1 CME (TM) Credits and WMS FAWM Credits
Motorcycle License NOT required, but riding experience is a MUST and you should be a High Intermediate to Expert Rider and expect long days on the trail 7-9 hours. Must be in great physical shape.

Day 1 (Sun, Feb. 22nd) – (D) Fly into Hanoi and meet the team (Overnight: MK Boutique Hotel or similar)

Day 2 (Monday, Feb. 23rd) – Hanoi - (B,L,D) (Overnight: MK Boutique Hotel or similar)
Rest Day / Collect Passports for Laos Visa

Day 3 (Tuesday, Feb. 24th) – Hanoi - Pu Luong (B,L,D) (Overnight Home Stay)
At 8 am after breakfast at your hotel our guide will come to hotel your pick you up and transfer to our garage where we get on the bikes and head out to Hoa Binh and the village of Ban Hieu and the Pu Luong Nature Reserve, overnight in house on stilts.
Day 4 (Weds, Feb. 25th) – Pu Luong - Border Crossing - Xam Nua (B,L,D) (Overnight Local Guest House)
In the morning, we go off-road and single track riding through the Pu Luong nature reserve following the Ma river then head to the border crossing of Nam Meo and into Laos after crossing the border we make our way to the small town of Xam Nua.

Day 5 (Thursday Feb. 26th) – Xam Nua - Phonsavan (B,L,D) (Overnight Hotel)
After Breakfast in Xan Nua we get back on the roads through the mountains for a few hours on our way to the Plain of Jars. This location in north central Laos is where there is hundreds of massive stone jars of unknown origins, in the plain there was many battles during the war and you can see the craters from the American bombing. We explore the region and visiting villages and caves where people hid from the American bombing during the war. We stop at the plain of Jars museum and have a walk around the site. We arrive in Phonsavan town around 5pm. and have time to clean up and enjoy a cold beverage before dinner.

Day 6 (Friday Feb. 27th) – Phonsavan - Vieng Thong (B,L,D) (Overnight Guest House)
Leaving Phonsavan early we start our riding on off-road sections climbing up through the hills and forest. A challenging ride today you’ll get a taste of a real Lao village life, far removed from the tourist trail we climb the mountain to look over the jungle into Vietnam with the carpet of trees below makes for a amazing view, then continue on dirt roads to the village of Vieng Thong. The guest house on the edge of town we stop for dinner at a local restaurant after getting cleaned up at the guest house.
Day 7 (Sat. Feb. 28th) – Vieng Thong - Nongchan (B,L,D) (Overnight Guesthouse)
After Breakfast we head back into the mountains and join up with the historic Ho Chi Minh trail. We cross the lake through forest and jungle tracks on our way to have lunch in villages where the American drop tons of bombs during the war. We can visit former soldiers and can talk about their experience during the conflict many of the older people speak Vietnamese and have a great insight into the conflict from the “other side”. We ride all day in the jungle while heading to the village of Nongchan and our guest house.
Day 8 (Sunday March 1st) – Nongchan - Xepon (B,L,D) (Overnight Guest House)
Leaving Nongchan village we heading south on Ho Chi Minh trail visiting caves the North Vietnamese and Laoation solders used as a base from 1967-1973, many bomb craters on the side on the road. Along the way we can see bomb creators and UXO teams working to clear the jungle of munitions, the route we travel has been cleared and is safe. Along the way we stop by Bualapha Village for a cool drink and continue on to Xepon arriving around 5pm. Overnight at guesthouse and dinner at local restaurant.
Day 9 (Mon. March 2nd) – Xepon / Rest Day (B)(L)(D) (Overnight in Guest House)
Sleep in and relax today, we can take a day trip to see some of the local sights, visit the UXO-LAO bomb disposal project and visit old Xepon and ban Dong Museum near the border with Vietnam we take time to drive towards the Vietnamese border and visit a museum of the failed Operation Lam Son 719 an South Vietnamese / American offensive launched in Feb 1971 to try and cut the trail. There is a collection of weapons at the museum and still ruins from the battles in the village. Overnight in Xepon.

Day 10 (Tues. March 3rd) – Xepon - Ta Oi (B)(L)(D) (Overnight in Guest House)
We ride west on HW9 to reach road 23, this dirt track take us through the Dong Phou Vieng Nature reserve we take this road through thick forest to reach on the Ho Chi Minh trail again on the way there are many river crossings. We pass villages that use empty cluster bomb casings to build their houses and American airplane parts as cooking utensil.
Day 11 (Weds. March 4th) – Ta Oi - Mouang Nong (B)(L)(D) (Overnight in Guest House)
We ride north on the Ho Chi Minh trail again exploring different tracks that made up the trail through thick forest and many river crossings. On the way we pass villages that use empty cluster bomb casings to build their houses, today we don’t have a long drive so we can spend time in these remote villages and explore around the region take our tie in the jungle to find dirt tracks to ride. Overnight and dinner at local restaurant in Mouang Nong.

Day 12 (Thursday March 5th) – Mouang Nong - Sekong (B)(L)(D) (Overnight in Hotel)
In the morning after breakfast we cross the river on a long bamboo bridge and ride down a rough section of the original Ho Chi Minh Trail You can see section with the original paving stones in the jungle and Cross many rivers and difficult sections, after lunch we join up with a larger dirt road and make our way through savanna and open forest to the provincial town of Sekong, overnight in Hotel.
Day 13 (Fri. March 6th) – Sekong - Vietnam Border - Ngoc How (B)(L)(D) (Overnight in Guest House)
Leaving our hotel and crossing the river by ferry, we ride down the trail, the road climbs the mountain to give us a view of the landscape and the many bomb craters. In the forest we can see Soviet T54 tanks destroyed along the side of the road and SAM 2, these Soviet missiles were used to shoot down the high altitude B52’s that bombed the trail endlessly. We continue on roads to meet the paved road that takes up to the border with Vietnam where we go through the immigration and customs procedures and re-enter Vietnam. We drive 20km to overnight in Ngoc Hoi town, dinner at local restaurant.
Day 14 (Sat. March 7th) – Ngoc How - Hoi An (B)(L)(D) (Overnight in Resort)
We start the morning with a local breakfast of Pho noodles or egg sandwiches as we head north on the Ho Chi Minh High
way to Hoi An and end our tour in the old town, truck will pick up all the bikes to take back to Hanoi the same day. We have a final
celebratory dinner in Hoi An and say farewell to the crew that conquered the Trail , Overnight in Hoi An Resort.

Transfers back to Airport in Hoi An / End of Trip

The riding logistics and leadership will be provided by extremely experienced guides from We Ride Vietnam, whose team members have a wealth of knowledge and experience.
The Wild Med Adventures Team are all well traveled and experienced and promise to make your CME experience both educational and informative, but please note that we are only responsible for the educational aspect of this trip. We are NOT guides and are NOT responsible for the riding safety or proper gear.

VISA: You need to apply for a Multi-Entry Visa
Also, be sure to Fly into Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport)and arrive on Feb. 22nd and depart Hoi An (Da Nang International Airport on March 8th, 2026.
Entry Airport: Noi Bai International Airport
Exit Airport: (Depends on how you book your flights but likely Danang Airport if coming straight home vs Noi Bai if you fly back to Hanoi or Tan Son Nhat airport.
TRIP INSURANCE:
Delegates should have personal insurance to cover any in-country medical examinations, treatment or rescue/evacuation as well as some form of trip insurance to cover missed flights, weather delays and other potential trip delays.
Rescue Insurance is required and we recommend Global Rescue.

Single Rooms: (Limited but may be able to do Hotel Rooms as singles but likely not all Homestays - contact us for details)
**You Must have High Intermediate to Expert Level Off-Road Riding Experience and be in adequate shape to handle 6-9 hours of riding daily.
Included: 14 Nights lodging (shared accommodations), Airport Transfers (2 designated times on arrival day), 12 Days of Riding, Rental Gear and Rental Bikes, all meals and most beverages (beer and wine). CME credit and credit towards your FAWM, Wild Med Gift.
Excluded: Tips: $350 - $400/pp. Any other personal gear you may need. Any additional costs for delays, injuries, trip insurance, or damage done by negligence. Bike Insurance is not included and you will be RESPONSIBLE for any damages to bike. Specialty Alcoholic Drinks - excludes high end wines and liquors. *Please note: this is a potentially dangerous activity in remote areas. Please consult your physician and have recommended insurance & rescue insurance.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation Policy: Your deposit for the travel portion of the course is nonrefundable. The entire balance of your trip fee and CME fee will be due 90 days prior to departure. No deposits will be returned after payment unless for some reason course is cancelled. If you have not paid in full prior to 90 days before the start of the course a late fee of $500 will be applied to the final cost or you will lose your spot on our trip. There will be a full refund minus deposit up to 90 days prior to course. No refunds if within 90 days of start of course.

Intended as continuing education for physicians, PA's, NP's, nurses, and medics who aspire to work or teach as a field instructor/provider in austere environments or who may work in remote clinics and deal with the injuries sustained by off road bikers.
Graduates from other wilderness medicine programs (e.g. FAWM, MFAWM) who want to gain experience and skills in off-roading / Remote Medicine

MAIN EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
The goal of the Wilderness Medical Society Dirt Biking CME Conference is to provide participants with a unique environment to experience essential medically-related topics and learn skills while collaborating with Coyote Trails through educational activities including lectures, hands on work-shops, training modules and Biking Excursions.
Development of this CME curriculum is formed by the following key objectives:
Provide educational opportunities based on core curriculum of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
Provide education of value to providers who care for the medical needs and also those involved with coordination of off roading-related educational activities, including medical providers who must educate and instruct rider safety with their patients.
Provide education of interest to wilderness and austere-activity enthusiasts.
After attending this conference, the participants will be able to:
Establish a set of treatment priorities for care of the sick or injured in remote settings.
Prevent, diagnose, and manage illnesses and injuries in austere environments.
Demonstrate increased knowledge and skill in recognizing and treating the most common illnesses and injuries encountered in remote environments, including medical kits, patient assessment, hemorrhage control, and orthopedic injuries.
Understand objective risk-assessment in wilderness environments from the perspective of the medical professional acting as a trip leader.
Understand the pathophysiology and management of acute emergencies related to remote environments and potential high velocity vehicular injuries.
Perform a pre-departure assessment of the participant’s pre-existing medical conditions and plan an appropriate medical kit & care.
