LEANORA MERWIN, DO
Dr. Merwin’s obsession for the outdoors began on the volcanic peaks of the cascades and the rugged surf and rivers of Oregon. Not limited by the endless hiking trails of the Pacific Northwest she has continued to explore this incredible world that we live in and push her knowledge of Wilderness Medicine.
Currently, she is finishing her Fellowship in Wilderness Medicine after completing an Emergency Medicine Residency. But she initially started exploring wilderness medicine with a Wilderness first Responder and Wilderness EMT courses which led her to multiple years of guiding before returning to finish her medical degree.
Her guiding career culminated in spending 46 days in Nunavut canoeing in the Arctic Circle with four teenagers. While she is now retired from guiding she continues to work as the physician consultant for her former company.
Today, you can usually find her summiting a mountain with other Wild Med participants and instructors (summited Kilimanjaro Jan. 2021) hiking to Nepalese base camps, seeking powder pockets and big swells while pushing her knowledge with mountaineering courses, swift water courses and teaching as an AWLS instructor. (and of course, you’ll always find a happy smile) - Super excited to have her join our team.
