Depart Nairobi circa 0900; 5 hour drive in 4x4 convoy with all camping equipment and supplies for 7 Nights.

Summary of TEaching & Activities
Managing sick and injured casualties in remote settings
Common location specific medical problems and risks
Camp set up and selection.
Digging/setting up camp toilets, showers etc.
Campfire cooking.
Day to day running of camp including collection of water for washing/showers, collecting firewood, waste disposal, managing local animal, and weather risks. Bush mechanics teaching including common mechanical problems/maintenance, changing wheels. Use of low range, diff lock, four wheel drive.
Winching, towing, jacking, sand ladders.
A several hour strenuous walk up the rift valley wall. Various opportunities to walk looking for animal signs and learning how to safely interact with large animals. Teaching around common medical problems, tropical diseases, zoonoses and emergencies pertinent to the location. Assessing, managing, and transferring casualties in the safari context. Emergency medical scenarios pertinent to the environment.
There will plenty of driving and walking around to see wildlife including night time game drives when you see lots of rarer nocturnal creatures.
Wildlife and bird identification: Patrick and Kieran are both expert naturalists and very keen birdwatchers. The bird life in this area is extraordinary.
Interaction with the local Maasai community who live very traditionally alongside the wildlife in the area. We will try to understand how they achieve this and the major health problems that afflict them.
A lecture on the conservation challenges in the area from a local wildlife researcher/conservationist.
Patrick will be on hand to help give tips on photography and we’ll set up some camera traps to see what animals are prowling around under the cover of darkness.
